Elements of Geopolicy
The newsagency Regnum is reporting the remarks of the Russian Deputy Joint chief of Staff on something described as Medvedev’s ‘European Security Pact’. Two things are interesting about this report: first, it calls for linkage between the West-East security axis with the North-South axis, linking the Western Atlantic security structure to the Arctic; second, this proposal of a formal agreement is designed to legitimise any future Russian boundary structures and claims on the Arctic. The Russians seems to be moving ahead on many fronts and what is the Western response? Is this approach an attempt to sideline NATO? http://www.regnum.ru/news/economy/1174570.html
