more on the g7 in canada

Meanwhile, the debate about the Canadian’s motives for not inviting Russia to the G7 meeting in Canada continues.  Прайм-тасс repeats the Canadian position that this was about allowing the G7 to appreciate the beauty of the Arctic - while they discussed how to save  the world’s economy they could presumably gaze out of the window.  It also, in another article, quotes a Canadian source who claims that the venue was a good one because it wouldn’t be attacked by the usual anti-g7 protestors.

Understandably, none of this is convincing Russian commentators who are quoted as saying that, ‘ Не приглашение России – это и есть попытка навязать всем остальным, в том числе и России, свое видение Арктики’ – i.e., that ‘not to invite Russia is an attempt to impose on all the others, including Russia, a vision of the Arctic.’

They note that the Arctic is not on the agenda but … so we might say, the choice of paper in which the menu is printed says something about the ambitions of the host.
